Safe Rooms

With the day and time we currently live in, Safe Rooms or if you would rather call them a panic room, have become a huge commodity. Whether you are building a new home or adding to your existing home you should consider a safe room. They are usually interior shelters that are on the small side and of course windowless. But they don't have to be. You can make them as big as you want depending of course on your financial ability to do so. Whether they are going to be used for weather related problems or intruders into your home and of course there are more uses for them that I am sure you can understand. Don't worry about not being able to contact people outside of your home while you are in your safe room, as your phone system may not work, you can still contact people either by a walkie talkie, panic buttons that you would have installed or perhaps you have a security system already installed in your home. Or perhaps you would be more interested in have a radio operator system installed to talk to other people.

You can also use the safe room for your valuables. Don't forget when stocking your safe room not only with your valuables but also with the basic emergency and survival items. Such as flashlight, blankets (maybe even blow up mattress's), first-aid kits, water, packaged or canned food, self-defense items, a gas mask for each member of your family, and perhaps even a portable toilet or just have one installed while having it built. Be sure to keep extra bottled water or just water you have collected in your own bottles, not only to cook with but also to use for your toilet if the water systems get turned off. If you have children, I would also keep things in there for them to keep occupied with. Such as puzzles, board games, coloring book & crayons, books, what ever you think would help them.

Remember to have a plan in effect for an emergency and go over it many times with your family especially if you have small children. Repetition is the best with children to make sure that they understand what they are to do.

The safe rooms are built with steel reinforced concrete to protect them from the outside elements. They are very sturdy and will resist almost any high winds that would come up. Steel vent ducts are the standard in all safe rooms, although I would have a purification system installed as well. You may also want to think about portable heaters or fans that could be used. Of course you would want them to be battery operated.

I personally believe that every home and business in America should have a safe room installed.
